Media Alert | Beal Real Estate Supports The Boys and Girls Club of San Dieguito
Jordan Beal, President and CEO of Beal Real Estate, Nacole Gray, Marketing Director of Beal Real Estate along with Blake Johnson, Director of Development at the San Diego Boys and Girls Club of San Dieguito discuss Beal Real Estate’s partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of San Dieguito and why this club is particularly special to them.
At Beal Real Estate, giving back to the community is of high importance. The team at Beal Real Estate shares why they choose to give back to the community and why they chose the Boys and Girls Club. Beal Real Estate partnered up with the Boys and Girls Club of San Dieguito in order to raise money for the club. As part of their efforts to raise money for the Boys and Girls Club of San Dieguito, Beal Real Estate produced and hosted “Cedros Open House where guests enjoyed h’ordeuvres, live music and wine at Carruth Cellars on Cedros Avenue. By hosting this event, it allowed the community to become involved and active, and also gave the community an opportunity to meet the Beal Real Estate team and become familiar with the charity.
Blake Johnson of the San Diego Boys and Girls Club of San Dieguito explains the importance of hosting these types of events and how these events directly impact the Boys and Girls Club. Partners like Beal Real Estate, who are willing to keep their dollars local, are the reason that the Boys and Girls Club is able to say “yes” to every child that walks through their door. At the Boys and Girls Club, no child is every turned away. That is one of the goals of the Boys and Girls Club which is critical as a social safety net to the local community. According to Johnson, the dollars and donations that the Boys and Girls Club receives are “spent right on the ground,” and allow for them to provide a better service to every child in the community. They are one of those organizations that make every dollar stretch. Whether it is their gym, their pool, their youth art’s academy, or their Montessori school, all of these components are bolstered and funded by donors, and the community greatly benefits from this. It is a place for children to join at a young age, grow and to later walk out with success stories.
Speaking of success stories, Jordan Beal himself developed quite the history at the club after having joined at a young age and is no stranger to the Boys and Girls Club of San Dieguito. Beal was a participant in a lot of the club’s youth sports, and has fond memories of spending time in the gym as a seven-year-old boy playing basketball in the Boys and Girls Club “Snuffy” basketball leagues. Having been involved with the club at such a young age and has remained an advocate.
Blake Johnson has been with the Boys and Girls Club of San Dieguito for a couple of years, but he has worked for a few of the other Boys and Girls Club’s across the country in the past. He notes that although the Boys and Girls Club’s are doing great work everywhere across the nation, the community should be very proud of what the Boys and Girls Club of San Dieguito has been doing. The San Dieguito club grows every single year. The new CEO, Marineke Vandervort, who came on recently, has been involved with the club for over twenty-seven years. Vandervort first started at the club as a swimming teacher, and then she graduated and moved up to working in the administrative offices. She eventually worked her way up to where she is today- running the whole organization. This level of “graduating” and moving up in the company is exactly what the Boys and Girls club promotes and what they are all about. It is about coming to the club as a young kid, and then returning to become a counselor, and eventually making it up to the highest ranks. Johnson notes that the Boys and Girls Club provides a lot of kids with their first jobs, giving them a place to work and familiarizing them with the working environment. They are introduced to W2’s while in high school in order to help them prepare for the future and provide them with leadership opportunities.
People often drive by the Boys and Girls club, but few actually know about what the club has to offer the members of the community. Nacole Gray notes that it was incredibly heart warming to hear about the history and heritage that is passed on at the club. Blake Johnson adds that the Boys and Girls Club serves over 10,800 kids every year, and allows children to start playing sports and music as early as their middle school years, when otherwise these children would have to go elsewhere to play sports and music, which could be much more costly. It is the donors and
when otherwise these children would have to go elsewhere to play sports and music, which could be much more costly. It is the donors and the help from partners like Beal Real Estate that makes it possible to keep the facility open, running, clean and most importantly, to provide these opportunity’s for children that otherwise may have not had them. The help that the club receives allows them to open up the world to kids in this community.
A misconception about the Boys and Girls Club of San Dieguito is that because of its zip code and area code, the club has it all set and doesn’t need any funds. The reality is that about 27% of the 10,800 children who attend the club are on a free introduced lunch plan. At the San Dieguito location, the club serves people of about five different zip codes- not all those who come to the club actually have the Solana Beach zip code. Johnson notes that they see parents driving their kids to the club who live on opposite sides of the county, but they bring their kids to the San Dieguito club so that they can be close to their children while they are at work. It is critical that these kids who are going to school and have free introduced lunches in the summer can come to the club and have their needs taken care of. At the Boys and Girls Club, they make sure that the children have a solid place to be, to play, to learn, and to be taken care of. That is why it is extremely important to have events such as the one hosted by the Beal Real Estate team.
In addition to the wonderful environment that the Boys and Girls Club provides for the children, it is also a great place to be to prepare the children for college and furthering their education. Around 97% of kids that are part of a boys and girls club go on to graduate high school, and 88% of these kids go on to graduate from college. The Boys and Girls Club likes to be able to tell every single kid, “you are great, you can be great, and you can go to college.” The Keystone Leadership Program at the Boys and Girls Club is at every one of the team clubs. The program is a college and career readiness program that the club offers, and provides kids in the program with college tours.
If you want to come to one of the clubs and if you have kids that might want to go one of the clubs, visit the Boys and Girls Club website, where all of the programs and information about the club, including information about college scholarships, are listed. The Club provides kids a lot more than just doing their homework and having fun. The Boys and Girls Club is a safe place for kids to play, thrive, and call home. Thanks to companies such as our team at Beal Real Estate, it is no wonder that with over 50 years of serving this community that the Boys and Girls club of San Dieguito is the longest standing youth serving community!
